Q. Why do Tellers ask me for an ID when I:

• Am a member?
• Have been a member for many years?
• Show a Member ID Card?

A. Asking for identification is a way of protecting access to your account. It is a measure to ensure that only those authorized have access to your money. We process over 100,000 Teller transactions per month, making it virtually impossible for every teller to positively identify every member without identification. Also, you may have a very forgettable face.

Q. Why is a “hold” placed on checks I deposit?

A. A hold is not placed on a deposit in the following instances: funds on deposit cover the amount of the check being deposited; well-established local company checks; major insurance company checks; Albuquerque area title company checks; and, if the member has had a U.S. Eagle Federal Credit Union account for at least one year and has maintained a consistent average balance equal or greater than the amount of the check. If a hold is placed, checks are available the second business day after the deposit.

Q. How does U.S. Eagle Federal Credit Union treat checks from a bank in another country?

A. Foreign Items (checks, whether in foreign or U.S. currency, payable through a bank outside the U.S. and it’s territories), require a 4 to 8 week hold period. U.S. Eagle Federal Credit Union does not have the capability to process Foreign Items. All checks from a foreign country must be sent to a Correspondent Bank for collection.

Q. Why does my checking account show a different balance on “account balance" and “available balance”?

A. A difference in these balances could be caused by several different situations:

A hold has been placed on a deposited check. The Account Balance includes the deposit, but the Available Balance may not reflect the held deposit for two days*. An ATM deposit will show immediately in the Account Balance, but may not be reflected in the Available Balance for two days*.

If you are delinquent on a loan, a hold may be placed on your account in the amount of the delinquency, and this amount may not be reflected in the Available Balance.
When a purchase is made with your Visa Check Card, the amount of the purchase is immediately deducted from your Available Balance. The amount of purchase is not deducted from your Account Balance until the merchant has processed the purchase and sent it to us. When a purchase is made with your Visa Check Card using Debit rather than Credit, some merchants, (in particular gasoline station merchants), will pre-authorize your account for an amount of $35 to $75. Frequently the pre-authorization will be reflected in your account available balance. This is in addition to the amount actually purchased. If you choose Credit, the pre-authorization hold is only $1. Choose Credit! *Special circumstances could require a longer hold.

If faxing information please include the following: date of check, check number, amount of check, payable to, checking account number, acknowledgement of fee, and signature. Q. I made a payment via electronic funds transfer, then requested a stop payment order. It was still paid, why?

A. Checks by phone must have a 9 digit routing number and a 10 digit account number, that is found on the bottom of your checks. Although the member may supply a check number to the vendor, the vendor is not obligated to use that number and may substitute another number. Stop payments are done by check number. If the vendor uses a different check number the stop payment will not take effect and the check will be paid.
